It is sometime cumbersome costly affairs for supplier to organize audits for different customers as most of the supplier working or may work in future with multiple customer. It is therefore a wonderful option for supplier to get SMETA audit uploaded in sedex advance by which they can share the same report with other supplier.

As per sedex website An estimated 280,000 SMETAs have been conducted to date with 93,000 of those on the Sedex Advance system.

Using SMETA, a supplier can have one audit conducted and share it with multiple customers, rather than having a different audit conducted for each customer. The SMETA documents are designed to be used by experienced auditors in line with current established practices.

Membership & SMETA audits

Members have the benefit to publish their SMETA audit reports directly on SEDEX system for reviewing by all customers. SMETA is not a pass or fail audit. The non-conformances, observations and good examples are a way to help a site improve and build on good practice.

SEDEX is not a standard setting body and doesn’t approve or certify our policies and standards, becoming a member of Sedex is a sign of our willingness to share information and to utilize this information to help manage and improve ethical standards within the supply chain.

Companies who aren’t Sedex members are also encouraged to use SMETA with the aim to improve audit transparency through sharing of auditor qualifications and practices as well as audit methodology.

A self-assessment questionnaire need to be filled prior to audit by sites to be audited. The audit length ranges from one to four days on site depending on number of employees. Full audit report with Corrective action plan is provided to the facility after the audit which can be uploaded to the SEDEX system if required. After the auditing process we can work with the facility to verify the completion of corrective action plans.

Companies which undergo a SEDEX-Audit according to the SMETA-Guidelines and share this information in the SEDEX-Database can prove to their customers that they respect the principles of ethically and socially sustainable production. Customers, on the other hand, can effectively manage their suppliers according to these principles, thus reducing their risk
